“Forecasters Lengthen Odds for White Christmas in Ireland Amid Warmer and Wetter Festive Season”

Ireland’s prospects for a White Christmas have diminished, with bookmakers offering odds of 12-1 for snowfall on December 25. This shift is attributed to a forecast indicating a warmer yet wetter festive season. Unlike Edinburgh and Glasgow, where the odds of a ‘White Christmas’ are at 2-1, Ireland’s chances have lengthened. The extended forecast from Met Éireann predicts warmer-than-normal weather with increased rainfall from November 27 to Christmas week. Despite the disappointment for those longing for a snowy holiday, the odds favour travellers. The last widespread snowy Christmas in Ireland was in 2010, and if 2023 follows suit, it will mark 13 years since the occurrence.

Meanwhile, the UK tends to experience ‘White Christmases’ more frequently, with northern England and Scotland having the highest chances, according to the UK Met Office.
