“Gardai Report 834 Missing Persons in Ireland, Including 317 Children Aged 17 or Younger”

Dublin: As of November 30, 2023, the Gardai have disclosed that there are currently 834 reported missing persons in Ireland, with 317 of them being children aged 17 or younger. The figures include a joint protocol with TUSLA, the Child and Family Agency, specifically addressing missing children from care. Missing person investigations commence promptly upon reporting to the police and are continuously reviewed at the superintendent level in the relevant Garda district.

Gardai emphasise that all missing person cases remain open until the individual is located, and the figures are subject to operational changes. Notable cases on the missing persons list include individuals like Deirdre Jacob, Annie McCarrick, Jo Jo Dullard, and Fiona Sinnott, believed to be murdered but with their bodies unrecovered. Tina Satchwell, previously on the list, was removed after her body was found, leading to murder charges against her husband. Gardai acknowledge that some individuals on the list may have deliberately vanished for personal reasons, and some missing children are refugees displaced from their families upon arriving in Ireland.
