Healthcare Strike Suspended as Unions and HSE Reach Agreement
Dublin: Healthcare unions have temporarily suspended the planned work-to-rule strike, which was set to begin today, following a breakthrough in negotiations with the Health Service Executive (HSE) at the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC).
After hours of intensive talks, unions including the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO), Forsa, Connect, Unite, and the Medical Laboratory Scientists Association (MLSA) agreed to call off the industrial action while a vote is conducted among union members on the newly proposed deal.
Key Agreement Terms
The HSE has committed to implementing several key changes in recruitment and workforce planning:
- Priority conversion of agency roles into permanent HSE positions.
- Enhanced maternity leave coverage with improved benefits.
- Increased consultation with unions on future staffing decisions.
- Promotion opportunities for existing staff within the limits of the HSE’s pay and workforce strategy.
With the strike action suspended, hospitals and healthcare facilities nationwide will operate as usual.
