Important Notice for Critical Skills and Green Card Employment Permit Holders
Employment Confirmation Process
Holders of Critical Skills and Green Card Employment Permits must first submit a Request for Support Letter form to the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment at [email protected].
Eligible applicants can apply for this support letter after completing 21 months of continuous employment in Ireland and within 12 weeks of their permit’s expiration.
Required Documentation
Applicants must submit:
- A recent employer letter (dated within the last three months) confirming their job title and ongoing employment.
- Copies of three recent payslips (issued within the last four months).
- P60s/Employment Detail Summaries for each year of employment under the permit.
- Proof of health insurance payments, if applicable.
Upon verification, the Department will issue a confirmation letter, which supports the applicant’s request for Stamp 4 permission. This process applies only for the initial transition from an employment permit to Stamp 4.
Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB) Registration
Once the confirmation letter is received, applicants must register with GNIB for Stamp 4 renewal.
Required documents for registration:
- Valid passport (including expired passport if renewed since arrival).
- GNIB/IRP card.
- Current Critical Skills/Green Card Employment Permit.
- Confirmation letter from the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment.
Conditions & Long-Term Residency
To qualify for Stamp 4, applicants must comply with all previous permit and immigration conditions and have a good character record. GNIB reserves the right to refuse registration if the applicant has lived outside Ireland for most of their permit period or has come to adverse attention.
Successful applicants will receive Stamp 4 permission for two years, renewable based on eligibility. After 60 months of residency, they may apply for long-term residence.
If an applicant is deemed ineligible for Stamp 4, they may be granted Stamp 1, requiring them to continue holding an employment permit to work in Ireland.
