India has taken a pivotal step towards resolving the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, which has continued for over two years. The Prime Minister’s Office has announced its decision to dispatch National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval to Moscow for critical peace talks aimed at de-escalating the conflict. This move follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visits to both Russia and Ukraine, where he held direct meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The diplomatic effort signals India’s active attempt to mediate the prolonged conflict. According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, Modi and Putin engaged in a telephone conversation about the war, with the Indian Prime Minister underscoring the need for practical intervention to end the hostilities and achieve a lasting and peaceful resolution.
NSA Ajit Doval is scheduled to visit Moscow on September 10 and 11 for these peace discussions. His visit will also coincide with the BRICS National Security Advisors (NSA) meeting, during which he is expected to engage in further dialogue with representatives from Russia and China.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has also highlighted the potential roles that India and China could play in mediating the Russia-Ukraine conflict, reflecting the increasing global recognition of India’s diplomatic efforts. Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a recent statement, acknowledged India as one of the key nations engaged in discussions surrounding the Ukraine crisis and affirmed that India is sincerely working towards resolving the situation.
