Indian Embassy Condemns Hate Crime Attack on Indian National in Tallaght, Demands Swift Justice
Dublin: The Indian Embassy in Dublin has issued a strong protest following the brutal and unprovoked assault of a 40-year-old Indian national in the Tallaght area of Dublin on the evening of July 19. The victim was attacked near Parkhill Road by a group of youths and was subsequently taken to Tallaght University Hospital by Gardaí, where he received treatment and was discharged on Sunday morning.
In an official statement, Indian Ambassador to Ireland, Akhilesh Mishra, condemned the incident as “deeply disturbing and reprehensible” and urged the Irish government to take immediate and strict legal action against those responsible. The Indian Embassy also contacted local Gardaí to ensure justice for the victim and to provide all possible assistance.
“The dignity, safety, and legal protection of every Indian citizen—regardless of where they reside or travel—must be ensured,” Ambassador Mishra stated. He also advised the Indian community in Ireland to remain vigilant and report any threats, harassment, or suspicious activity to both local authorities and the Indian consulate.
The incident has sparked outrage across Irish society. Members of the public and several political leaders have expressed solidarity with the Indian community and called for robust measures to tackle hate crimes. Local People Before Profit (PBP) TD Paul Murphy, along with other political representatives, strongly condemned the attack and visited the victim to express their support.
Community leaders, including Overseas Indian Congress Ireland President Linkwinstar Mathew and public activist Senthil Ramaswamy, have initiated efforts to escalate the matter to the Irish Prime Minister’s office, calling for a national-level response to hate-motivated violence.
The Gardaí have launched an intensive investigation. While no arrests have been made so far, officers have reviewed CCTV footage from the area and are appealing for witnesses to come forward. Gardaí confirmed that the allegations made by the attackers—who falsely accused the victim of mistreating children—were entirely baseless.
Authorities have officially registered the incident as a hate crime, citing racial motivation as the cause of the assault. Videos of the attack have been circulating widely on social media, further fuelling public concern. Gardaí have reiterated that acts of violence driven by racial hatred will not be tolerated and that all available resources are being deployed to bring the perpetrators to justice.
