Indian President Droupadi Murmu Likely to Visit Ireland to Strengthen Bilateral Ties
New Delhi: Indian President Droupadi Murmu is expected to visit Ireland as part of a broader initiative to enhance trade, education, and technology partnerships between the two nations. The possibility of this visit was hinted at by Ireland’s Higher Education Minister, James Lawless, during his recent trip to India.
Speaking about Ireland’s commitment to deepening relations with India, Minister Lawless emphasised that both countries are actively working to expand cooperation across multiple sectors. The visit would follow the recent trip of Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to Ireland, which was met with a warm reception. The minister also confirmed that senior Irish officials will be making reciprocal visits to India in the near future.
This marks Minister Lawless’ first visit to India since assuming office in January 2024. With 9,000 Indian students currently pursuing education in Ireland—the largest cohort of international students—the minister reaffirmed Ireland’s commitment to strengthening educational ties.
India-Ireland Direct Flights to Be Launched Soon
As part of efforts to enhance connectivity, Minister Lawless indicated that direct flights between India and Ireland will soon become a reality. During his visit, he met with Indian Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu to discuss the steps required to expedite the launch of this crucial air link.

Ireland is actively seeking highly skilled Indian professionals to meet the growing demand in sectors such as STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), healthcare, and green energy, according to Minister Lawless.
