Dublin: A Pakistan-based website, ‘My Spirit Halloween’, recently came under scrutiny for advertising a Halloween parade in Dublin that never actually occurred. The website’s announcement of a “closing Halloween parade” attracted thousands of visitors to Dublin’s city centre, only for them to find that no such event was taking place. Reports indicated that large crowds gathered on O’Connell Street on October 31 expecting a “Mackness Halloween Parade,” causing significant disruption.
Nasir Ali, the website’s owner, apologised, calling the incident an unfortunate error. According to Ali, a team member researching events in Dublin had found information about past Halloween parades, which led to the mistaken posting. Ali stated that if they had known earlier the parade would not occur, they would have removed the announcement immediately. “We are deeply sorry for the confusion and disappointment caused by this oversight,” he said, adding, “we should have verified the event details more thoroughly.”
Despite the apology, Irish authorities, including Gardaí, are investigating the incident to understand any possible motive behind the false advertisement. Some media reports suggest that the post was deliberate; however, Ali strongly denies this, asserting the error was unintended.
