Ireland Expands Rail Network with New DART and Commuter Stations
Dublin: Woodbrook Station, Ireland’s 147th rail station, will open on 10 August between Bray and Shankill, serving a new residential area of 2,300 homes. Funded by the Department of Transport through the National Transport Authority, the project aims to reduce car dependency and support climate goals. With up to 191 DART services daily, travel time to city centre stations will be approximately 40 minutes. The station will include shelters, lighting, CCTV, and bicycle parking.
In Dublin, a new DART station is also planned for Cabra, serving 26,000 residents along the Phoenix Park Tunnel line and future DART+ Southwestroute. It will enhance connections to city and intercity destinations, including Cork, Limerick, and Galway, via the proposed Heuston West station.
Meanwhile, Cork is set for a major rail expansion, with eight new commuter stations planned across the Cobh, Midleton, and Mallow lines, alongside a new depot and full electrification. Stations are planned for Blackpool, Monard, Tivoli, Carrigtwohill West, Waterrock, Ballynoe, Blarney, and Dunkettle. A railway order will be sought by late 2026.
