Dublin: In July, Ireland welcomed approximately 655,400 foreign visitors, marking a 0.8% increase from the previous year, according to the Central Statistics Office (CSO). British visitors made up 32.2% of the total, followed by Americans at 22.7%, and Germans at 7.5%.
Despite a 6.2% drop in the total number of nights stayed, spending by visitors increased by 5%, rising to €919.2 million. On average, tourists spent €1,403, up 4.2% from last July. The highest expenditures were on day-to-day expenses (€336.9 million), followed by accommodation (€281.5 million) and fares (€269.3 million).
The primary reasons for visiting were leisure (45.7%), visiting friends (30.1%), and business (11%). Most visitors (41%) stayed in hotels, while 36.3% stayed with friends or at their own property, and 6.2% chose guest houses or B&Bs.
Additionally, over 2.2 million people left Ireland on overseas routes in July, a 3% increase year-on-year, with the majority being Irish residents.
