Luas Red Line Services Disrupted as George Dock Bridge Demolished and Rebuilt
Dublin: The George Dock Bridge on the Luas Red Line, severely damaged in a fire on the 21st last month, is being demolished and rebuilt, resulting in significant disruption to services. A section of the line will remain closed until the end of November, with passengers advised to expect travel delays despite the introduction of replacement bus services.
From today, Luas Red Line services between Connolly and The Point will be suspended. In their place, an alternative bus service will operate every 10 minutes during Luas operating hours. The buses will be wheelchair accessible on the lower deck, and valid Luas tickets or TFI Leap cards will be required, according to operator Transdev.
The demolition work requires adjustments to overhead power lines, leading to reduced services after 7pm on Tuesday and Wednesday. During these evenings, trams will run only between Saggart/Tallaght and Smithfield. Morning services will not be affected. Luas passengers will also be able to use Dublin Bus services with their tickets during these special closures.
Transdev confirmed that the bridge sustained serious structural damage in the fire and that a full bridge reconstruction plan has been put in place, with completion expected by late November. Luas staff will be on hand at key locations to assist passengers throughout the disruption.
The operator said updates on the bridge replacement project and service changes will be provided regularly through Luas’ official website and social media channels.
