Luas Services Resume with Delays Following Security Alert Response

Luas services have resumed, albeit with some delays, following a security alert triggered by a suspicious phone call regarding potential threats to a tram. The incident prompted a coordinated response by Gardaí and Luas operators to ensure public safety.

The incident occurred between 5:30 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. involving a phone call that did not specify a particular tram. As a precautionary measure, both Luas lines were temporarily suspended, and passengers were evacuated from the trams closest to the stops.

In an updated statement provided to the Irish Independent, the Gardaí confirmed that, after a thorough search of all operational trams in collaboration with Luas staff, no concerning items or issues were found. As a result, full Luas operations have been reinstated.

The initial announcement of the service suspension was made shortly before 6 p.m., causing significant disruption for commuters during the city’s rush hour. Both the Red and Green Line services have since resumed, though passengers are advised to expect some delays as services are regulated. Notably, Luas tickets remain valid for travel on the Dublin Bus.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and will provide further updates to passengers as needed,” stated a Luas spokesperson following the resumption of services.
