Meta Platforms Face Widespread Outage, Disrupting Millions Worldwide

Dublin: A major technical glitch disrupted Meta’s flagship platforms—Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp—leaving hundreds of thousands of users without access on Wednesday evening. The outage, which began around 6:00 PM, affected users in Ireland and the UK and extended to parts of Europe, the United States, Asia, Australia, and South America.

The sudden downtime caused frustration among millions of social media users globally, who were unable to access the platforms for several hours. Facebook was the first service to experience disruption, sparking a wave of complaints. According to Downdetector, over 100,000 reports of outages were logged shortly after the issue began.

Meta, the parent company of the three platforms, confirmed the incident and attributed the disruptions to a technical glitch. By 10:30 PM, Meta announced that the issue had been resolved and extended an apology for the inconvenience caused.

“We sincerely apologise for the disruption and appreciate our users’ patience as we worked to resolve the issue,” the company stated.
