Dublin – Meteorologists are warning that a severe winter storm, dubbed the “Snow Beast,” is set to impact Ireland in February, potentially bringing heavy snowfall and dangerously low temperatures. The forecast comes as the country continues to recover from the devastation caused by Storm Eowyn.
Experts predict that this weather system could mirror the extreme snowfall that affected eastern Ireland a decade ago, with a significant snow event expected by the second week of February. There are growing concerns that if the system moves across Europe after February 10, temperatures could plummet to as low as -20°C.
Cold Front Developing Over Eastern Europe
Meteorological observers report the formation of a large cold air mass over Eastern Europe, which is expected to shift west-northwest across the continent by next weekend. Ireland is already experiencing strong winds, contributing to a current temperature drop to -2°C.
Despite these warnings, the Met Office has stated that today’s weather will remain dry and relatively mild. Conditions will be partly cloudy with light winds, and daytime temperatures are expected to range between 8°C and 10°C.
Authorities advise the public to stay informed about weather updates as the situation develops.
