In a move to provide essential financial relief, Minister Heather Humphreys has declared a Double Child Benefit Payment scheduled for today, aimed at assisting 650,000 families grappling with the challenges of the escalating cost of living. This initiative will allocate a total of €280 per child, benefiting over 1.2 million children across the nation.
Specifically, in Donegal, 22,466 families encompassing 43,966 children are poised to benefit from this Double Child Benefit Payment. Minister Humphreys, in addition to unveiling this crucial support, has also disclosed details regarding the Christmas Bonus, a substantial allocation amounting to over €320 million. This Christmas bonus is set to reach approximately 1.3 million individuals, encompassing pensioners, caregivers, and those with disabilities. Notably, recipients of illness benefits exceeding a 12-month duration will also receive the bonus, mirroring the 2022 dispensation.
The disbursement of the Christmas bonus will align with the regular schedule of primary weekly payments for eligible individuals. Minister Humphreys expressed her satisfaction with this initiative, stating, “I am very pleased to announce that 650,000 families will receive a Double Child Benefit Payment on Tuesday to support them with the cost of living; this means that families will receive payments of €280 per child tomorrow.”
Acknowledging the financial strains faced by families, especially in the lead-up to the holiday season, Minister Humphreys emphasised the critical role of Child Benefit in alleviating these challenges. Drawing from her prior experience in the credit union, she highlighted the significance of the monthly Child Benefit payment and expressed her delight in unveiling this double payment, anticipated to provide substantial support to hardworking families throughout the country.
