More than 2,000 dead; Morocco as a disaster land

The death toll from the earthquake in Morocco has reportedly exceeded 2,000. The current death toll is 2012. A total of 2059 people were injured. Thousands more are trapped beneath the fallen buildings. Thousands of people have been injured and are in critical condition.

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, efforts to rescue those trapped between the buildings are ongoing. On Friday night, shortly after 10 p.m. local time, an earthquake struck. Following the first earthquake, a 4.9-magnitude earthquake added to the devastation.

The Morocco Geophysical Centre reports that the 7.2-magnitude earthquake hit the Eagle region of the High Atlas. The tremors were felt as far away as Portugal and Algeria. The earthquake caused havoc in mountainous and inland areas where vehicles are inaccessible. There are also reports of people fleeing these areas due to earthquake fears.
