New Report Highlights Need for 1,000 Cybersecurity Professionals Annually in Ireland

According to the “State of the Cyber Security Sector in Ireland 2022” report released by Cyber Ireland, the cybersecurity industry in Ireland requires the recruitment of 1,000 workers each year to meet its growing demand.

The report reveals that over 7,300 cybersecurity professionals are currently employed in Ireland, and it foresees the potential for sectoral employment to reach 17,000, contributing a gross value added of €2.5 billion by 2030.

In 2022, the industry witnessed a significant surge in job postings, with more than 6,700 unique positions for cybersecurity professionals, reflecting a threefold increase in market demand since 2019.

Notably, the average salary in the cybersecurity field stands at €75,000, nearly double the median salary in Ireland, underscoring a shortage of skilled professionals.

Eoin Byrne, the cluster manager at Cyber Ireland, emphasised the report’s findings, highlighting the burgeoning demand for cybersecurity talent and the potential benefits associated with supporting the sector’s growth, including regional employment opportunities, high-value jobs, and positioning Ireland as a leader in cybersecurity on the global stage.

The study also reveals that there are close to 500 firms in Ireland’s cybersecurity sector, which contributed €1.1 billion to the economy in the previous year.

With 83% of Irish businesses expecting their cybersecurity teams to expand over the next year and more than half (51%) anticipating growth rates of 25% or higher, the report underscores the sector’s continued expansion.

The report was unveiled during CIN23, an annual two-day conference organized by Cyber Ireland, attended by over 300 senior professionals from Ireland’s cybersecurity sector, spanning industry, education, and government.
