Brussels: The EU Commission plans to create new train routes as part of a pilot scheme to ease travel between European countries. The US Commission is promoting green transportation because air transportation systems emit a lot of pollution, which contributes to climate change.
“As demand for green transportation grows, rail services must be able to provide better and faster services, particularly for long cross-border journeys,” says Adina Loana Valean, European Commissioner for Transport.
It is for this reason that the European Commission wants to help rail companies launch new international train routes, but instead of direct funding, the European Commission can help with coordination, regulation, and promotion.
The EU Commission estimates that all new services will be operational by December 2029, but many will be operational much sooner.
