Northern Ireland Unveils a New Road Safety Strategy Aiming to Halve Road Deaths and Serious Injuries by 2030

Dublin: Northern Ireland’s new “Road Safety Strategy to 2030” aims to reduce road deaths and serious injuries by at least 50% by the end of the decade. Launched by Infrastructure Minister John O’Dowd, the strategy targets fewer than 35 annual deaths and 376 serious injuries by 2030. It also seeks to minimise child and youth fatalities from road collisions. The initiative focusses on “safe roads, safe vehicles, and safe people,” addressing human error, which is responsible for over 95% of road deaths. The plan includes 10 strategic interventions to enhance road safety, backed by key emergency agencies.
