Odisha Train Accident Updates

In a tragic three-train crash, at least 288 people were killed and over 1000 were wounded. The Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, the Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express, and a cargo train were all involved in the disaster.

One train slammed into the other so fiercely that carriages were lifted far into the air, twisting and then bursting off the rails. Another carriage had been thrown completely onto its roof, smashing the passenger compartment. According to railway officials, around 3,400 people were travelling in two trains.

On Sunday, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik called Prime Minister Narendra Modi and updated him on the latest railway disaster scenario, including the care of injured passengers.

Noting that doctors, medical students, and other health care workers are trying their best, Patnaik informed the prime minister that every effort has been made to save the lives of injured passengers in Odisha hospitals.

Patnaik stated that Odisha has a policy that emphasises “Every Life is Precious” and that the state government leaves no stone unturned to preserve lives, from rescue operations to transporting injured to hospitals and making provisions for treatment.
