Dublin: The Irish government is planning a potential financial boost for pensioners, with up to €1,000 in support through the expansion of the fuel allowance. Minister for Social Protection Heather Humphreys is considering extending the benefit to those over 66, aiming to help more older people manage rising energy costs. Currently, the allowance is €33 per week for 28 weeks, totalling €924, and is available to those over 70 who meet certain income requirements. The move comes amid high energy prices and is welcomed by advocacy groups and politicians, particularly with the next general election approaching.
