Postmortem Scheduled Today for Christmas Eve Shooting Victim; 40-Year-Old in Critical Condition

Dublin: A post-mortem examination is set to take place today for a 40-year-old man who succumbed to injuries sustained in a shooting at a Dublin restaurant on Christmas Day. The unexpected attack, suspected to be tied to the ongoing Corduff riots, left many, including children and women, in a state of fear. Two suspects reportedly fled the scene in a white Audi car.

The incident unfolded at a restaurant on Main Street in Blanchardstown around 8:10 p.m., resulting in two individuals being rushed to James Connolly Memorial Hospital. Unfortunately, one of them did not survive. The deceased’s post-mortem examination is scheduled for today, and the other patient remains in critical condition.

The gunman is believed to have faced retaliation at the scene, possibly being assaulted and stabbed. The shooting victim, a 40-year-old local resident, sustained a gunshot wound to the neck. The relationship between the deceased and the injured individual is unclear.

While video footage of the incident has circulated on social media, authorities have urged the public not to share it. Gardaí are appealing for information, and Prime Minister Leo Varadkar expressed shock at the shooting, emphasising that the restaurant was a well-known family establishment he had frequented. A Garda investigation is underway, and Justice Minister Helen McEntee condemned the attack as utterly reprehensible on Christmas Day.
