Dublin: A technical fault that caused a widespread power outage impacting more than 30,000 customers in North Dublin, including parts of Dublin Airport, has been temporarily resolved, authorities have confirmed. The outage disrupted check-in operations at Terminal 2 (T2) of the airport, creating delays for passengers.
Dublin Airport officials reported that power loss affected parts of T2 early yesterday, following an ESB power failure in the North County Dublin area. Passengers experienced significant delays, with some waiting in check-in queues for over an hour. Additionally, check-in desk screens were non-functional during the outage.
The airport’s backup generators, designed to mitigate such situations, also encountered issues, compounding the delays at T2. Despite these challenges, the majority of airport operations proceeded without interruption. However, the power outage did lead to a small backlog at T2 in the afternoon, resulting in delays for 15 flights.
The ESB confirmed that the power was fully restored by the afternoon, bringing operations back to normal. In a press release, Dublin Airport assured passengers that the queues and disruptions caused by the outage were quickly addressed.
The situation is now under control, and both the airport and ESB are continuing to monitor the systems to prevent any recurrence.
