CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury is in critical condition and receiving respiratory support at AIIMS, New Delhi, due to an acute respiratory tract infection. The 72-year-old leader was admitted on August 19 for a pneumonia-like chest infection and remains under close observation by a multidisciplinary team.
Yechury, known for his coalition-building efforts, has been active in politics, sharing messages on social media as recently as late August, despite his health challenges. He is a key figure in CPI(M) and has a long history of political involvement, dating back to his student activism during the Emergency.
