Dublin: A 29-year-old student, Rishabh Mahajan, has been charged with three counts of public indecency under the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Act 2017, after allegedly engaging in lewd behaviour outside a woman’s workplace in north Dublin.
The alleged incidents, which occurred on three separate occasions between October and November, were reportedly captured on CCTV and involved the accused exposing himself during the early morning hours.
During a bail hearing at Dublin District Court, Garda Patrick Hynes objected to bail, citing the seriousness of the allegations. However, the court noted that Mahajan, an Indian national residing in Smithfield, Dublin 7, had no prior record of missing court dates.
Defence solicitor Mervyn Harnett stated that his client denies the charges and has suffered significant personal consequences, including the loss of his university place and accommodation.
Judge Treasa Kelly granted bail with strict conditions, including a passport surrender, a requirement to reside at a known address, weekly check-ins at a Garda station, and no contact with the complainant. The accused is due back in court next month to enter a plea. Legal aid was approved.
