Thieves enter Apple store in US through a tunnel in bathroom, steal 436 iPhones worth $500,000

Many people were taken aback by the recent theft of 436 iPhones worth an estimated $500,000 (about Rs 4.1 crore) from an Apple Store in Lynnwood, Washington. Even the most ambitious robbers may find it difficult to break into an Apple Store’s protective doors. In this case, however, the offenders chose a different strategy, digging into the adjoining Seattle Coffee Gear store early this month and making a massive hole in the bathroom wall to get access to the Apple Store’s backroom, according to Seattle’s King 5 News.

Based on surveillance footage, the burglars entered and exited Seattle Coffee Gear in less than 15 minutes. Mike Atkinson, the CEO of the coffee appliance business, shared a post of the damage on Twitter.

Replacing Seattle Coffee Gear’s locks reportedly cost nearly $900, and the store anticipates that repairs to the bathroom will cost between $600 and $800. The police are investigating the incident, and the Alderwood Mall, where the businesses are situated, is assisting the authorities, according to Seattle’s King 5 News. Some, including Atkinson, suspect an inside job due to the speed and accuracy with which the crime was carried out.

Apple has not commented on the theft, as the corporation has always avoided publicising shop robberies.
