Transfer of all nationwide Renewals to the ISD online portal..
Dublin: On November 4, 2024, the responsibility for the renewal of Irish immigration residence permissions for individuals in all counties will officially transition from the Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB) to the Department of Justice’s Immigration Service Delivery (ISD) Registration Office.
From this date, all applicants nationwide must use the ISD online renewal portal for residence permission renewals. In-person visits to the Burgh Quay Registration Office will not be necessary unless specifically required.
Applying for Renewal:
Applicants can now submit renewal applications online from any county, up to 12 weeks prior to the expiry of their current Irish Residence Permit (IRP) card, ensuring ample time for processing. It is essential to upload all required documents when submitting the application, as incomplete applications will not be processed.
Processing Times:
The ISD will process online applications based on the order in which they are received, and live updates on processing times are available on the Immigration Service website.
Renewal Fee Exemptions:
Certain categories of applicants are exempt from the €300 registration fee, including:
Those with refugee or subsidiary protection status,
Individuals with leave to remain under Section 49 of the International Protection Act 2015,
Persons aged 16-18,
Residents based on marriage to an Irish citizen,
Family members of EU citizens,
Ukrainian citizens and certain other residents with Temporary Protection status.
Renewing Your IRP Card:
All applicants can now renew their IRP cards online, regardless of residence location, up to 12 weeks in advance of their card’s expiration. The new IRP card will be mailed directly to the address provided in your application, so please ensure your address, including any apartment numbers and Eircode, is accurate.
First-Time Registration:
If this is your first time registering and you reside in Dublin, Meath, Kildare, Wicklow, Cork, or Limerick, you will still need to book an appointment at Burgh Quay in Dublin. Residents of all other counties should contact their local Garda Immigration Office for first-time registration procedures.
