Travel Disruptions Expected as India-Pakistan Tensions Prompt Security Advisories
Dublin: Ongoing military tensions between India and Pakistan have led to significant disruptions in international travel, including for tourists departing from Ireland. Flights to and from key destinations in both countries have already been cancelled or rerouted, with further delays expected in the coming days.
Travel expert Eoghan Corry noted that the situation remains fluid and could impact airline schedules for an extended period. “Long-haul carriers may be forced to adjust take-off and landing times for several weeks, potentially into the next month or two,” Corry said, emphasising that a quick resolution is unlikely.
Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs has received high-security alerts from both India and Pakistan. It has issued a travel advisory urging Irish citizens to remain vigilant in public areas, monitor local news developments, and follow the guidance of local authorities.
The department also warned of potential delays and disruptions affecting Indian airspace and advised passengers to contact airlines directly for the latest information. In its advisory, it strongly discouraged all travel to the following areas due to heightened security risks:
- Jammu and Kashmir
- The India-Pakistan border regions
- Manipur
- Pakistan-occupied Kashmir
- Balochistan Province
- The former Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA)
- Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province
- The Line of Control (LoC)
- Wagah border crossing
Reports confirm that the Indian Army launched strikes on multiple locations in Pakistan’s Punjab and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on the night of May 7. A state of emergency has since been declared in Pakistan’s Punjab province, and the security climate in both countries remains highly volatile.
The Department of Foreign Affairs reiterated the importance of avoiding proximity to any conflict zones and urged travellers to stay informed through official channels, including media updates, hotel advisories, travel agencies, and airline notifications.
