Two Individuals Apprehended in €8 Million Heroin Seizure at Weston Airport Dublin

Dublin: In a significant operation, Irish authorities have detained two men attempting to smuggle a substantial quantity of drugs, specifically €8 million worth of heroin, through Dublin’s Weston Airport. Located 13 km outside Dublin city, Weston Airport serves as a hub for flight training. The arrests, a result of a comprehensive intelligence effort involving the Revenue and the Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, mark the largest heroin bust in Ireland this year. The suspects, aged between 40 and 60, have been taken into custody after the successful operation.

Assistant Commissioner for Organised and Serious Crime Justin Kelly highlighted the increasing trend of using non-commercial flights for drug smuggling. In response to recent heroin overdoses in Dublin city centre, Kelly emphasised the importance of disrupting criminal networks responsible for supplying such substances into communities. The arrests come amid concerns about external forces threatening the well-being and moral fabric of Ireland’s 55 Lakh residents.
