Dublin: The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Ireland fell to 4.3% in August, a 0.4 percentage point drop, with 9,800 fewer people unemployed, according to the Central Statistics Office (CSO). The total unemployed stood at 124,600, down from 134,400 in July. Unemployment was evenly distributed between men and women, both at 4.3%, with youth unemployment falling to 10.7%.
Despite sectoral job fluctuations, including a loss of 25,000 retail jobs and an increase of 20,000 in industry, experts highlight the labour market’s resilience. Job listings remain 14% above pre-pandemic levels, and female workforce participation hit a record high of 61.4%. Economists emphasise the importance of flexible working arrangements in sustaining low unemployment.
