Winter plan should accompany the budget to improve healthcare: INMO with a request

Dublin: The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation wants the budget to include plans to improve Ireland’s health sector. Budget funds should be allocated to improve the safety of patients and healthcare workers. The organisation also demanded that the winter plan be published as soon as possible. General Secretary Phil Ni Sheaghdha said that the government should take into account the sufferings of those who are suffering from a lack of treatment due to increased congestion in hospitals.

Nurses and midwives are going to face a dangerous winter, Sheaghdha said. They urged Health Minister Stephen Donnelly and the HSE to publish the Winter Plan alongside the October 10 Budget. The budget should prioritise nurse and midwife recruitment and retention. Due to a shortage of midwives, maternity wards are closing. As a result, there should be a plan in place to address this issue.

Sheaghdha also demanded that measures be taken to avoid trolley chaos during the winter and to ensure the safety of patients, nurses, and other healthcare workers.
