Nationwide Flood Risk Alert as Emergency Agency Warns of Severe Weather Across Ireland

Dublin: The National Directorate for Fire and Emergency Management (NDFEM) has warned that the entire country is at risk of flooding over the next 24 hours, regardless of whether a formal weather warning is in place.

The emergency body said heavy rainfall combined with strong winds could lead to flooding in all counties today. Rising tides may further increase the risk in coastal areas. Met Éireann has also cautioned that wave heights are expected to increase around high tide.

Public Urged to Remain Vigilant

Authorities have stressed that conditions could deteriorate rapidly, with even light rainfall potentially leading to rising river levels and localised flooding. Local authorities and Transport Infrastructure Ireland are monitoring the situation and will respond in affected areas. Road closures may be necessary where flooding poses a danger.

Motorists are being advised to strictly adhere to traffic guidance and exercise extreme caution while driving in heavy rain. Officials have reminded drivers to remain alert to changing road conditions at all times. Particular concern has been raised for eastern counties that have recently experienced significant flooding.

Multiple Weather Warnings in Effect

A yellow rain and snow warning has been issued for Donegal, Leitrim and Sligo. The alert, which came into force at 2am, will remain valid until 2pm. Heavy rain, sleet and snowfall are expected to reduce visibility and create hazardous travel conditions.

Met Éireann has also placed all counties in Leinster, along with Cavan, Monaghan, Cork, Tipperary and Waterford, under a yellow rainfall warning from 11pm last night until 11pm tonight.

In addition, a separate yellow wind alert is in place for Wexford, Wicklow, Meath, Louth and Dublin until 1pm today, with strong gusts expected.

Authorities continue to monitor developments closely and have urged the public to stay informed through official updates.
