Irish Wholesale Electricity Prices Surge 76.9% in a Year, CSO Figures Show

Dublin: Wholesale electricity prices in Ireland have risen by almost 77 per cent over the past year, according to the latest figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO).

The CSO reported a 9.6 per cent month-on-month increase in wholesale electricity prices, while prices were 76.9 per cent higher than during the same period last year.

Despite the sharp annual increase, the CSO noted that wholesale electricity prices remain 56 per cent below their peak level recorded in August 2022.

The latest figures also show significant increases across energy-related fuels, including petrol, diesel and electricity. Prices in the energy products category rose by 11 per cent during the month and by 34.5 per cent compared with the same month last year.

The increases have been driven largely by higher global oil prices following the conflict in the Middle East, which has placed renewed pressure on energy markets.

Food Producer Prices Fall

Meanwhile, producer prices for food products declined by 2.1 per cent month-on-month, compared with a 0.6 per cent increase recorded during the same period last year.

There were significant differences across individual food categories.

Producer prices for fish and fish products increased by 8.6 per cent, while prices for meat and meat products fell by 9.6 per cent.
