Online Ticket Scam Alert: Fake Phoenix Park Events Target Dublin Residents

Dublin: Authorities have issued a warning to residents after online scammers began targeting the public with fake event promotions linked to Phoenix Park. Fraudulent advertisements circulating on social media are promoting non-existent drone shows and offering misleading deals, including “free drinks” and exclusive access.

The scam, which has also surfaced in cities such as Cork, Galway and Limerick, directs users to a suspicious website claiming to host a six-night “Drone Madness” event in May. However, officials have confirmed that no such events are scheduled or approved, and no listings appear on official park or council platforms.

The fraudulent advertisements, widely shared on platforms like Meta services, including Instagram, claim the event will feature over 400 drones, live visuals, and food experiences. Tickets are priced at €17 and promise perks such as vegan menus, “front-row seating”, and even backstage access—claims authorities say are entirely fabricated.

Red flags identified on the website include inconsistent event timings, unrealistic guarantees, and countdown timers designed to pressure users into making quick purchases. In some cases, the timer resets after expiring, a common tactic used in online scams.

A similar fake promotion was also identified in Cork, falsely advertising a drone show at Fitzgerald’s Park. Cork City Council has confirmed that no such event has been authorised.

Gardaí have urged the public to exercise caution when purchasing tickets online and to verify events through official sources. Anyone who believes they may have been targeted or defrauded is advised to report the incident to their local Garda station and provide all relevant documentation, including emails, advertisements, and transaction details.

Officials stress the importance of relying on verified channels and avoiding unfamiliar websites when booking event tickets to prevent falling victim to such scams.
