Channel 4 Corrects Report Linking Gardaí to Death of Yves Sakila

Dublin: Channel 4 News has corrected and removed a social media report that wrongly linked An Garda Síochána to the death of Yves Sakila in Dublin.

The controversy arose after Channel 4 News published content suggesting that Sakila had been killed by police in Dublin following an incident near Arnotts. The report quickly spread across social media platforms.

However, Gardaí contacted the broadcaster to clarify that no Garda officers were present during the incident. Channel 4 subsequently deleted the post and issued a correction to a related interview clip involving a relative of Sakila.

Incident Involved Private Security Personnel

Sakila died at Mater Hospital after an altercation that followed an alleged shop theft incident in Dublin city centre.

According to reports, Sakila was restrained and assaulted by private security personnel near the Henry Street entrance to Arnotts before emergency services arrived. Video footage circulating online showed several men forcing him to the ground and restraining him prior to his collapse.

None of the available footage showed Garda officers at the scene, and no individuals in Garda uniform were visible in the recordings.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding Sakila’s death. The exact cause of death has not yet been officially confirmed, and no arrests or criminal charges have been announced so far.
