Wexford welcome for Indian Ambassador

The Indian Ambassador to Ireland, Mr, Sandeep Kumar met Council and business leaders and paid a courtesy call to Wexford General Hospital during his first visit to the county.

The visit was part of the Indian Embassy’s provincial outreach programme which aims to strengthen the relationship between India and various counties in Ireland.

The embassy intends to promote Wexford as an attractive destination for Indian businesses wishing to invest abroad. The county’s strategic location, 90 minutes drive from Dublin, close to the sea and countryside, is among the selling points.

It is estimated that there are currently between 35,000 and 37,000 Indians living, working and studying in Ireland, including about 800 in County Wexford.

There are 33 Indian nurses working in Wexford hospital along with a number of doctors and consultants.

Mr. Kumar who was appointed Ambassador in November 2018, met the Mayor of Wexford, Cllr. Tony Dempsey; the Minister of State at the Department of Defence, Paul Kehoe; the CEO of Wexford County Council Tom Enright, Director of Economic Development, Tony Larkin and the General Manager of Weford General Hospital Lily Byrnes.

He met representatives of Wexford Chamber Skillnet and businesses in Wexford including Spiritual Earth, Chevron Training and Recruitment and the Indian-owned company MSSL in Enniscorthy.

He also met members of the Indian community living and working in Wexford, including members of the newly-launched Indo Irish Cultural Society in Ireland which is based in Enniscorthy.
