India has the highest number of children born in the New Year

India has the highest number of children born to the world in the New Year during the Covid period.

According to UNICEF, more than 370,000 babies were born worldwide on New Year’s Day. The first baby was born in Fiji and the last in the United States.

Ten countries account for 52 percent of the world’s tens of thousands of New Year’s babies. India tops the list with 59,995 children.

China – 35,165, Pakistan – 14,161, Indonesia – 12,336, Ethiopia – 12,006, US – 10312, Egypt – 9,455, Bangladesh – 9,236 and Congo – 8,640.

Meanwhile, the first baby in Ireland was born four seconds after the New Year. Covid positive mother Jennifer McWilliams gave birth to a baby boy at the National Maternity Hospital.

National Maternity Hospital Master Professor Shane Higgins said the mother and baby were fine.

“Brody came early and surprised us, it was a great start to the new year. I can’t believe this is the first baby born in Ireland in 2021,” Jennifer said.

According to the United Nations, the life expectancy of babies born in Ireland on January 1 is 105.6 years, according to the World Population Prospects.
