A Russian warplane collides with a US drone; Russia denies role
Brussels: A Russian fighter jet and an American drone collide over the Black Sea. According to the US military’s European Command, a Russian Sukhoi-27 fighter plane collided with a US MQ-9 Reaper drone.
The MQ-9 drone was conducting a routine inspection of international airspace when it was hit by the Russian aircraft, according to General James Hecker, commander of US Air Forces Europe and Air Forces Africa. The MQ-9 was rendered completely useless. He went on to say that Russia’s actions were unprofessional and dangerous.
Meanwhile, Russia’s Defense Ministry stated that its warplane did not collide with the crashed US drone in the Black Sea. According to the ministry, the Russian military did not use its onboard weapons and did not collide with the drone.
