Aer Lingus Cancels 500 Summer Flights, Introduces Stricter ID Rules for UK–Ireland Travel

Dublin: Aer Lingus has announced the cancellation of 500 flights from its summer schedule, alongside new identification requirements for passengers travelling between the United Kingdom and Ireland.

From February 25, 2026, all passengers on these routes will be required to carry a valid passport or Irish passport card. The airline confirmed that previously accepted forms of photo identification—such as bus passes and workplace ID cards—will no longer be permitted for travel.

Flight Disruptions Expected

The flight cancellations are attributed to mandatory aircraft maintenance requirements. The changes are expected to impact thousands of passengers travelling through major airports, including Dublin, Shannon, and Cork, affecting domestic, European, and transatlantic routes during the busy summer period.

Aer Lingus stated that the cancellations represent approximately 2% of its total operations. The airline added that most affected passengers will be rebooked onto alternative flights on the same day, where possible.
