“Car meet” at Co Cork; Gardaí broke the gathering of 800 people

Gardaí broke into a large car meet last night since the event encompassed nearly 800 people. The event happened in Co Cork.

Gardaí took action after they received a report that a huge mob had gathered at Eastgate, Little Island, in contravention of public health regulations.

According to the Gardaí report, there were nearly 250 vehicles on the spot.

“There was very little evidence of social distancing, wearing of face coverings or general compliance with public health guidelines… Ages of participants included older males in their 30s/40s, some accompanied by young children, but mainly males and females in their 20s.” gardaí said in a statement.

“Participants had travelled from outside the greater Cork area and various parts of Munster.” they said.

One man was arrested for what gardaí called “drunkenness offences”.
