Dublin: A 34-year-old man who died after his car left the road and entered a river in Co Cork on Friday night had become a father for the second time just four months ago.
Joice Thomas, originally from Kerala in India, was living in Ballynoe with his wife, Ruby Kuriakose, a nurse, and their two young children. The family had moved to Ireland last year.
Mr Thomas was driving home from his job at a nursing home in Leamlara during heavy rain when the crash occurred on the Conna Road (R628) shortly after 10pm. His car was later discovered in the River Bride on Saturday morning following an extensive search. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Friends have launched a GoFundMe appeal to support his widow and children and to cover repatriation and funeral costs. Gardaí are investigating the incident and have appealed for witnesses or dashcam footage from the area during the relevant timeframe.
