COVID surge in Ireland; Health Department released list of worst affected areas

As the COVID spread in Ireland keeps rising, the Department of Health has published a list of cities with the largest number of confirmed cases.

Level 3 restrictions are currently in place in Dublin and Donegal following the escalation of COVID cases.

In addition to these major counties, the virus is spreading rapidly to other parts of the country. For example, Celbridge has a test positivity rate of 300.6 per million for the past two weeks.

The country as a whole is concerned about the rising positivity rate that NPHET and health experts are considering to impose lockdown restrictions.

Cities that have the largest number of Covid cases;

● Carlow: Worst affected area is Tullow (positivity: 53.6)

● Cavan: Five or more cases in all areas

● Clare: The worst affected area is Ennis (positivity: 84.1)

● Cork: The worst affected area is Cork City Southwest (positivity: 59.5)

● Donegal: The worst affected area is LifFord, Stranorlar (positivity: 336.1)

● Dublin: The worst affected area is Ballymun, Finglas (positivity: 265.4)

● Galway: The worst affected area is Lofria (positivity: 86.1)

● Kerry: Worst affected area is the Tralee (positivity: 47.9)

● Kildare: Worst affected area is Celbridge  (positivity: 300.6)

● Kilkenny: Worst affected area is Piltown (positivity: 56.2)

● Laois: Worst affected area is Portlaoise (positivity: 78.6)

● Leitrim: The worst affected area is Ballinamore (positivity: 50.7)

● Limerick: The worst affected area is Newcastle West (positivity: 80.2)

● Longford: Worst affected area is Longford Town (positivity: 43.6)

● Louth: The worst affected area is Dundalk-Carlingford (positivity: 179.7)

● Mayo: Worst affected area is Belmullet (positivity: 47.6)
