Dublin: Planning a European holiday? There is encouraging news for Indian travellers dreaming of exploring Europe’s snow-capped mountains, historic cities, and picturesque countryside. The latest data has revealed which European countries are most likely to approve Schengen visa applications from India, offering valuable insights for prospective travellers.
According to the latest figures released by the European Commission, more than 115,000 Schengen visa applications submitted from India in 2025 were rejected. This represents an overall rejection rate of more than 15 per cent. However, several European countries have demonstrated a comparatively favourable approach towards Indian applicants.
Belgium Leads with the Lowest Rejection Rate
Belgium emerged as the most visa-friendly Schengen country for Indian applicants. Out of 33,333 applications received, 30,434 visas were granted, resulting in a rejection rate of just 8.7 per cent.
Denmark ranked second, approving 15,451 visas from 17,038 applications, with a rejection rate of 9.3 per cent.
Germany Continues to Be a Popular Choice
Germany recorded one of the highest numbers of visa approvals among Indian applicants. Of more than 153,000 applications submitted, over 136,000 were approved, resulting in a rejection rate of only 10.8 per cent.
Germany remains a major destination for Indians pursuing higher education, employment opportunities, and tourism.
Other Countries with Relatively Low Rejection Rates
Despite receiving large volumes of applications, Switzerland and France also featured among the top countries with comparatively low rejection rates.
Other countries considered favourable for Indian travellers include Italy, Sweden, Norway, Hungary, and Finland, reflecting their continued appeal as destinations for tourism, study, and business travel.
Approval Is Never Guaranteed
Travel experts caution that a lower rejection rate does not guarantee visa approval. Several factors play a crucial role in the application process, including:
-
Proof of sufficient financial resources
-
A clear and genuine purpose of travel
-
Accurate and complete documentation
-
Previous travel history and compliance with visa rules
Experts emphasise that applicants who submit complete documents and clearly explain their travel plans significantly improve their chances of securing a Schengen visa.
