India Dominated Zimbabwe by 72 Runs to Keep Semi-Final Hopes Alive

India delivered a dominant performance to defeat Zimbabwe by 72 runs in their crucial Super Eight clash of the T20 World Cup 2026 in Chennai, keeping their campaign on track for a semi-final berth.

After being put in to bat by Zimbabwe captain Sikander Raza, India posted a tournament-high 256/4 in 20 overs — the highest total of this edition. Abhishek Sharma set the tone with a rapid 55 off 30 balls, while Ishan Kishan (38) and Suryakumar Yadav (33) maintained the momentum. Hardik Pandya then produced a blistering unbeaten 50 off 23 deliveries, sharing an unbroken 84-run stand with Tilak Varma, who struck 44 not out off just 16 balls.

In response, Zimbabwe finished on 184/6 despite a valiant unbeaten 97 from Brian Bennett. Arshdeep Singh led India’s bowling effort with figures of 3/24.

The victory, coupled with earlier results in the group, sets up a virtual quarter-final against the West Indies on Sunday, with the winner advancing to the semi-finals.
