Ireland Braces for Intense Heat as Temperatures Could Reach 31°C

Dublin: Ireland is set to experience a significant rise in temperatures over the coming days, with weather forecasters predicting that temperatures could climb as high as 31°C next week.

Forecasters have warned that 12 counties across the country are likely to experience unusually hot conditions, with temperatures expected to exceed 20°C this weekend and approach 30°C or higher by the middle of next week.

According to weather projections, the heat could surpass Ireland’s current May temperature record of 28.4°C, which was recorded in County Kerry in 1997.

Heatwave Conditions Possible

It remains uncertain whether the conditions will officially qualify as a heatwave in Ireland. A heatwave is generally defined as five consecutive days with temperatures above 25°C.

Meteorologists say temperatures may rise to 31°C in some parts of the country by midweek if current weather patterns continue.

Saturday is expected to remain dry with sunny spells and some fog patches, while temperatures are forecast to range between 17°C and 23°C.

The warmest conditions are expected across Leinster, including counties Carlow, Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Louth, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Wexford and Wicklow.

Temperatures to Intensify From Monday

Temperatures are expected to rise steadily from Monday onwards, reaching around 23°C at the start of the week.

By Tuesday, some areas could record highs of 29°C, while weather models suggest temperatures may climb to 31°C by Wednesday in certain parts of the country.

Thursday is also forecast to remain exceptionally warm, with temperatures close to 30°C expected in several regions.

Meteorologists say this could become Ireland’s hottest weather spell of 2026 so far.

The warm spell is being driven by a strong high-pressure system bringing dry and settled weather conditions across much of the country.

Rainfall levels are expected to remain below average during the week, although some coastal regions may experience patches of sea fog.

Forecasters have also indicated that weather conditions could become more unsettled towards next weekend, with the possibility of heavy rainfall developing later in the week.
