Manish Gupta Appointed as India’s Next Ambassador to Ireland

New Delhi: Senior Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer Manish Gupta has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Republic of Ireland, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Friday. A 1998-batch IFS officer, Gupta is currently serving as India’s High Commissioner to Ghana and is expected to assume his new role in Dublin shortly.

With over 25 years of diplomatic experience, Manish Gupta has held several key assignments across India and abroad, playing a pivotal role in strengthening India’s political, economic, and cultural engagement globally.

Extensive Diplomatic Career

During his tenure as High Commissioner to Ghana, Gupta worked actively to deepen India’s relations with West African nations, focusing on trade, investment, and development partnerships.

He previously served in prominent diplomatic positions in New Delhi, New York, Istanbul, Sydney, Dakar, and Brussels. From 2009 to 2013, he was posted at India’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations (New York), where he served as Political Counsellor and Coordinator at the UN Counter-Terrorism Committee. He also represented India on the executive boards of UNDP and UNICEF.

Gupta later served as India’s Consul General in Istanbul (2013–2016) and Sydney, and earlier as a diplomat in Brussels (2000–2002) and Dakar (2002–2005).

Leadership Roles in the MEA

At the MEA headquarters in New Delhi, Gupta served as Joint Secretary (Nigeria Affairs) from 2016 to 2019, overseeing critical portfolios including migration, labour mobility, immigration policy, and welfare of overseas Indians. He also headed the India Centre for Migration (ICM), a policy think tank of the MEA focusing on international migration and diaspora engagement.

Earlier in his career, he served as Desk Officer for Nepal in the Ministry’s Northern Division (2005–2009).

Manish Gupta holds a B.Tech degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)–Banaras Hindu University (BHU). He is married to Nimisha Gupta, and the couple has one son.
