Musgrave Announces 82 Job Cuts Across SuperValu and Centra Operations

Dublin: Up to 82 jobs are set to be cut at Musgrave, the retail group that owns SuperValu and Centra, with roles in finance and human resources departments affected across Dublin, Cork and Belfast.

In a statement, Musgrave Group said the proposed restructuring is intended to strengthen its ability to serve its brands, customers and communities across Ireland. The company emphasised that the decision does not reflect on the dedication or professionalism of the employees impacted. It confirmed that discussions with staff are ongoing and that voluntary redundancy options are being considered.

Musgrave employs more than 12,000 people across the island of Ireland and is headquartered in Cork. Founded over 150 years ago, the company reported turnover of more than €5.2 billion last year. Its portfolio includes 16 retail brands, such as Daybreak, Mace, Frank and Honest, Donnybrook Fair and the Spanish supermarket chain Dialprix.

Reacting to the announcement, Sinn Féin TD for Cork South Central, Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire, described the development as deeply concerning. He noted that workers have played a significant role in building Musgrave into one of Cork’s leading commercial institutions.

Deputy Ó Laoghaire called on Musgrave to engage meaningfully with employees and urged relevant government departments to explore all options to protect jobs where possible. He said that if engagement with the Department of Enterprise could help safeguard roles, it should be pursued, and added that efforts must be made to ensure the best possible outcome for any workers who lose their positions.
