Trump Claims White House Shooting Suspect ‘Anti-Christian’ as Security Concerns Resurface

Washington: US President Donald Trump has alleged that the suspect involved in a shooting near the White House held anti-Christian views and had authored a manifesto expressing hostility toward Christians.

Speaking after the incident, Trump described the suspect as “deeply disturbed” and claimed that a family member had alerted law enforcement about his behaviour. The president also suggested that he may have been the intended target, noting that he has survived two previous assassination attempts since 2024.

The shooting occurred near the White House, where a gunman opened fire at a security checkpoint at the Washington Hilton Hotel. A U.S. Secret Service agent was injured but survived due to wearing a bulletproof vest, officials confirmed.

Anthony Guglielmi, a spokesperson for the Secret Service, said the agent has since been discharged from hospital and is in good condition. The suspect was taken into custody following the incident.

In the aftermath, Trump renewed calls for enhanced security infrastructure at the White House, including the construction of a large, secure ballroom in the basement. The proposed project, estimated at $400 million, has been a recurring priority during his second administration.

Authorities are also examining a note reportedly written by the suspect, in which he described the attack as a reaction to perceived “arrogance” and claimed that he was able to enter a high-security environment with multiple weapons without being challenged.

Meanwhile, Buckingham Palace confirmed that the planned U.S. visit by King Charles III and Queen Camilla will proceed as scheduled. The four-day visit to Washington and New York is intended to mark the longstanding ties between the United Kingdom and the United States, as America approaches the 250th anniversary of its independence.
