TV thrown down by a woman from the balcony fell on a woman walking below; Court suspended the sentence
DUBLIN: A TV that was thrown down by a woman from the second floor balcony of the apartment fell on a woman walking below. Carolyn Connors (34), a mother of two, pleaded guilty in court to doing this out of sudden rage. The incident caused injuries to a woman who had walked hand-in-hand with her granddaughter.
Connors, who pleaded guilty to the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 27 June 2018, received a fully suspended sentence. The incident took place at the South Central Apartments on Blackthorn Drive in Sandyford, Dublin. Connors was sentenced to three years in prison for the crime but the entire sentence was suspended.
Connors admitted to Gardai that she threw the TV and put it down to her ex-partner “driving her crazy”. The woman sustained injuries to her leg and her chest and attended hospital later that day. Connors said she would apologize to the injured woman. The woman sustained injuries to her leg and her chest and attended hospital later that day.
The counsel Maeve McCabe BL said that her client had no intention of hitting anyone when she threw the TV and it all happened in a moment of rage. Counsel told the court that Connors had been a carer for both of her parents until they died. Ms. McCabe also said she had issues with alcohol and had been treated for it.
Connors has previously been convicted of criminal damage and public order. She was deemed to be intoxicated upon her arrest. The Counsel told the court that, prior to the offence, Connors had been physically assaulted by her ex-partner, and that she had picked up the TV in a moment of rage and threw it out of the window.
After hearing the case, Judge Pauline Codd sentenced her to three years imprisonment, but suspended the entirety of the sentence on strict conditions.
