ViraPro sanitisers are not in circulation anymore said the Department of Agriculture

The supplier of the ViraPro hand sanitiser has not accounted fully for all of its product, said the Department of Agriculture.

The Department has previously announced to call back all the ViraPro hand sanitisers from the market as they found harmful content like methanol in them.

It has now confirmed that ViraPro products are not in circulation. Charlie McConalogue, the said to the Agricultural Committee that while the supplier demonstrated some compliance with the initial recall of 22 October, further deadlines of 28 October and 12 November had not been fully complied with to the Department’s satisfaction.

He also mentioned that the legal responsibility for the withdrawal of the product rests with the supplier concerned. Before it’s recall, the company’s hand sainitiser was used extensively in schools, nursing homes and healthcare facilities until it was recalled last month.

Mr McConalogue said that the issue should have been addressed on October 16 itself, because it was the day when the initial results came. He also said that actions should have been taken on that day itself, but they waited until 22 October.

The Ministed also said that the problem was unknown to him till October 22. He said that since then 75 products have been tested since then and no safety issues have been flagged.

Still the tests are running on a weekly basis.
